Fun and fundraising at Lagoon Fest
Gateway Women’s Centre had a stall at Lagoon Fest earlier this month, and what a great day it was. We were so grateful that the weather was perfect - sunny with no wind. We aimed to meet the public and tell them about our work with women. We also wanted to raise funds for Gateway by selling some beautiful handmade bookmarks and tie- dye tea towels and tote bags, as well as cards and jewellery made by the women who use the centre. We also talked with people about how they can support our work, by volunteering or donating, and we had a fun craft activity in the afternoon to try.
We took it in turns to staff the stall, although Gen was there all day doing a great job! A huge thank you goes to our amazing volunteers Maggie, Jess, Sheila and Stacey, who helped us out with their fantastic selling and crafting skills and gave up their Saturday to support us.
We were so grateful to them as we were busy all day with people buying, crafting and talking with us about our work. We talked to about 100 people, and we took home £125, which was a great result. This will go directly towards the work of the women’s centre. We also made some great contacts with other local projects and services.
Lagoon Fest had such a great atmosphere - we’re looking forward to next year!
